Octave

Blends octave-up and octave-down voices with your dry signal using high-quality pitch shifting.

What it does

The Octave effect generates a pitch-shifted copy of your signal one octave above and/or one octave below, and blends each with the original. The octave voices use the same Signalsmith-based pitch-shifting approach as Transpose, so the result is cleaner and more stable than the legacy octave generator while still covering the classic octave-up fuzz tone and octave-down growl.

The Tone control is a low-pass filter applied to the entire output, keeping the extended harmonics from becoming harsh.

Parameters

ParameterRangeDefaultWhat it does
Octave Up0–100%60%Level of the octave-up voice in the mix. 0% = none; 100% = equal with the dry signal
Octave Down0–100%60%Level of the octave-down voice in the mix. 0% = none; 100% = equal with the dry signal
Tone0–100%50%Controls a low-pass filter on the output, rolling off high frequencies above a sweep range (~400–4000 Hz). Lower Tone = warmer, darker blend; higher Tone = brighter, more defined octaves
Mix0–100%100%Blends the octave voices with the dry signal. At 100%, all enabled octave voices are fully present. Reducing Mix lowers the octave contribution without independently adjusting Octave Up/Down

Tips

  • Octave Up + dry signal (~50% Octave Up, Mix 100%) is the classic "fuzzy octave up" tone for single-note lines. Use it on the bridge pickup, near the upper frets for the brightest attack.
  • Octave Down + dry at moderate levels adds a bass guitar-like sub voice beneath your guitar — useful for bass-less arrangements or a thicker, heavier tone.
  • Both Octave Up and Down at moderate levels creates a wide, organ-like chord tone.
  • The new octave voices handle chords and sustained harmonies much more gracefully than the legacy tracking-based version, but single-note lines still give the most pedal-like result.
  • Play closer to the neck pickup if using the octave-up voice — the more fundamental tone helps the tracking.
  • Lower the Tone control if the result sounds harsh or unnatural. The octave harmonics can be very bright; rolling off the top end with Tone at 30–45% keeps the combined sound musical.
